With more than 35 years in Dance Music, you will most definitely have come across Danny Mekanik under one of his monikers from over 3 decades in the industry.
In 1988, as This Ain’t Chicago, Danny created the UK's first Acid House record, with Ride the Rhythm (Acid not placid).
In 1989, Danny formed Candy Flip with college friend, Ric Peet, and in 1990, they scored a top three hit in the UK, with their version of The Beatles', Strawberry Fields Forever.
TV appearances and gigs all over the world, gave Danny his first taste of major success, and he liked it.
In 1991, Danny, together with his brother, and musical co-conspirator, DJ Kelvin Andrews, formed Sure is Pure.
Their first release was an EP, on their own Gem Records label ,and one of the tracks from that release was a club smash, due to it being championed by New Jersey DJ, Tony Humphries.
Over the next few years, as Sure is Pure they remixed and produced artists such as, Sister Sledge; The Doobie Brothers; Aretha Franklin; Diana Ross; Marvin Gaye; The Miracles; INXS; Blueboy; Paul Simpson & Adeva; Kylie Minouge, Tom Jones, Lana Del Rey, 808 State & Inner City to name but a few. In the early 90s, Sure is Pure became the go to, UK house remixers. Danny, all this time, was honing his studio skills.
In 1997, Danny & Kelvin, along with drummer, Steve Cadman, keyboard player, Andy Stubbs and guitarist, Joe Hand, formed Sound 5. Together they released the album, No Illicit Dancing in 1999, which although, not a commercial hit, was well received and is loved by many, to this day. One of the tracks from these sessions, was a cut up version of Ecstasy by Barry White, which went on to form the basis of Robbie Williams' international hit record, Rock DJ.
In 2000, The brothers decided to re-invent themselves, and Soul Mekanik was born, and over the next 6 years, released 14 tracks on RIP records, culminating in the album 81, which has been described as 'leftfield house at it's very best'.
In 2005 Danny began work on a track that Kelvin described as 'rude and boxy'. This track went on to become the title track on Robbie Willams' 7th studio album ´Rudebox', to which they contributed a further 3 tracks. The single, Rudebox went to number 1 in 3 countries and the album went to number 1 in 14 countries..
In 2008, the brothers began work on Robbie Williams' 8th studio album 'Reality killed the video star', contributing 8 tracks to the album, including a collaboration with Chaz Jankel of the Blockheads. The album was produced by Trevor Horn, and the boys spent 3 months at Sarm West studios making the record. Danny likened the experience to 'going back to school'. The album went on to be number 1 in 7 countries. During this time they were asked to remix 'Welcome to the Pleasuredome´ by Frankie goes to Hollywood, which is regarded, by many, as the best mix of the song.
Now based in Sitges,, Danny continues to release his own music, on various labels, including his own Bandcamp store,

En los años siguientes, Sure is Pure remezcló y produjo a artistas como Sister Sledge, The Doobie Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, The Miracles, INXS, Blueboy, Paul Simpson & Adeva, Kylie Minouge, Tom Jones, Lana Del Rey, 808 State e Inner City, por nombrar sólo algunos.

House music is a way of life for Danny and he cannot be put into a box. He is simply not containable, imitable nor confined to any constraints of current labels. Danny is the whole outside of the box! and is the epitome in musical standards of Pure House. What he brings to a DJ set when he plays comes from the heart and no amount of labelling or spin can emanate what comes from him as a source.
In today’s music culture there are a multitude of sub-cultures with subcategories of the House genre: progressive house; deep house; tech house; soulful house and other more divisive titles, dividing and marginalising what is a much more meaningful entity. Danny is the real deal! His skills as a DJ and ability to bring a crowd alive has seen him play in venues across the world, including: London - Fabric, The End, East Village, The Egg; Miami - Amica Lounge, Shine @ The Shelborne; Los Angeles - Moon Shadows, The Social; Paris - Folies Pigalle; Milan - Punta Del Este; as well as Moscow, Tokyo, Belgium, Cyprus and more, alongside the likes of Frankie Knuckles, Jon Dasilva, Marshall Jefferson, Maurice Fulton, Pepe Braddock, Justin Robertson & Jeremy Healey.
In 2009, Danny founded wOnK, costumed and themed Acid House parties with the emphasis on fun, and over the next 14 years they hosted over 100 parties including 7 annual micro festivals in England and Wales, regular party nights in Staffordshire. Individual events in Manchester, Birmingham, a packed boat party at Electric Elephant Festival in Croatia, a number of beach parties in North Cyprus and great nights in North Nicosia. 2018 saw the 4th annual Wonk Cyprus, bringing in an international crowd to the beautiful North of the island. Almost 15 years on, wOnK is still going and is something unique and loved by many. With a move to Barcelona, @Wonkbcn deliver special events in secret locations around the Garraf area, with their amazing sound system Sirius!
Most recently, Danny helped to create US! A seedling venture with Danny and invited special guests. So far guests have included Andy Carrol, Angel Johnson, Simon Boulind, Mimsy and a special live reunion after 4 years with Kelvin Andrews..
Danny is currently looking to collaborate with venues in and around Barcelona to bring new and exciting events.

¡Más recientemente, Danny ayudó a crear US!
